Stroke – act FAST

Act FAST posterLast Thursday afternoon, my Dad had a stroke. It’s something that can happen to anyone, young or old, and how quickly people around the patient respond can mean all the difference to their recovery. Quite simply, the faster they get treatment, the more of the person is saved.

We’ve been very lucky – my Dad was seen quickly and he’s already making great progress – but it has made me want to alert others and make everyone aware of the signs, so that if it happens to someone YOU love, you can get them the help they need as quickly as possible.

Here’s a quick checklist:

  1. Has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile?
  2. Can they raise both arms and keep them where they are?
  3. Is their speech slurred?
  4. Time to call 999* if they have any single ONE of these symptoms, never mind all three!

* Or whatever the emergency medical help number is where you are.

REMEMBER!

  • Face

  • Arms

  • Speech

  • Time to call 999

Act FAST and help save the person you love!
